Does Makeup Cause Acne

It is the same cycle. You have acne. You put on makeup to cover the acne. Then your acne looks even worse or breakouts flare up. So you add more makeup thinking it will hide the breakouts. So what is the real answer? Yes. Makeup is causing you more acne.
If you struggle with acne, there’s a good chance you prefer to cover it up with makeup as much as you can. There are so many beauty products that it’s actually pretty easy to with items like foundations, powders and concealers.
But unfortunately, many of those products actually make acne worse, or cause even worse breakouts. But there are ways to reduce the breakouts and still wear makeup.
1. Only Wear Full Coverage When Needed.
Try to avoid wearing full coverage makeup. Apply a tinted moisturizer to give coverage. Your skin needs to be able to breathe in order to heal.
2. Wash And Properly Store Your Makeup Brushes
So when is the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? If you can't remember the last time you cleaned them, then they are probably filled with all kinds of bacteria, oils, and dirt, which are helping to contribute to your breakouts.
How often should you clean them? Experts agree that should be once a week. Wash and condition your brushes each week and then replace them on average after 3 months. Some brushes can last longer with good maintenance depending on the type of bristles.
3. Washing Your Hands Before Applying Makeup
Although you may use makeup brushes for most of your application, at some point you may apply skincare product or makeup with your fingers. That can create the perfect transfer of bacteria from your hands to your face.
4. Use The Right Makeup Products For Your Skin Type
The chemicals that are in makeup pay a huge role in skin that is acne prone. Look for products that do not contain alcohol, acrylics, silicones, oils, sodium chloride, fragrances, lanolin, petrochemicals, and dyes such as D & C Red.
Instead look for makeup products that say they contain salicylic acid, noncomedogenic ( means non pore clogging) and consider powder products over liquid foundation for acne-prone skin.
